Magnificent Bora Bora hotels and resorts are more numerous than on any other island in French Polynesia. This includes 16 big, luxurious hotels and resorts on the main island and offshore motu islets. Add to this the family-owned pensions, condos, villas and privately owned motu islets and you will see there are accommodations for anyone and everyone!
This may make choosing one difficult, but remember that no matter where you stay or how much you decide to spend,
the people are friendly,
the views are spectacular,
and the lagoon is a sparkling gem.
When you are looking for accommodations, something you won't find are the high-rise hotels and resorts like you see in Hawaii or many Caribbean destinations.
What you will find are beautiful little bungalows and villas nestled among lush gardens and along the beaches. They blend in with elegance to allow the surroundings to further envelop each and every visitor.
However, the most unique way to stay in Bora Bora is in an overwater bungalow.
These "huts" designed in the traditional polynesian style are anything but rustic! Built on stilts over the water of the lagoon, they "float" over a breathtaking aquarium of color.
While the overwater bungalows vary from hotel to hotel, a few features you will find in most of them are:
Because there are so many amazing luxury Bora Bora hotels and resorts, I will feature a couple of them each month.
I thought to start this site, my first two picks would be the oldest and newest of them all. These are the Hotel Bora Bora, opened in June of 1961, and the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora , opened in September of 2008.
UPDATE-Hotel Bora Bora closed in October for a complete reconstruction. They plan for a re-launch of the historic resort in time for its 50th anniversary.
I look forward to what the re-launch will bring. The Hotel Bora Bora, being the oldest luxury Bora Bora hotel, has the prime spot on the island in my opinion. Their bungalows are suspended over some of the most beautiful coral gardens. You truly can step out your back door to some of the best snorkeling around the island! Located on somewhat of a peninsula, the views from their three beaches are 270 degrees. This includes the islands of Tahaa and Raiatea to the west, the island of Maupiti to the east, the unique islet of Motu Toopua in the foreground, and the barrier reef in the distance. I will keep checking for any new information about their re-opening.
